I’ve watched WWE WrestleMania every year since Mania II. As an invested fan I was able to determine what moments were the most memorable without persuasive commentary.
In this era of WWE, part of the marketing for their grandest annual event is telling the viewer what’s a “WrestleMania moment” – a standout occurrence during or from the event.
At Night 1 of the 2-night WrestleMania 37 on April 10, I felt that moment was watching WWE Smackdown Women’s Champion Sasha Banks faceoff with 2021 Royal Rumble winner Bianca Belair in the main event.
Both women started to cry as the 25,000 fans on hand chanted their names and gave them a thunderous standing ovation for not only being two women in the main event, and not only being two Black women in the main event, but for being two of the very best professional wrestlers alive getting well-earned top billing. I almost cried too. It was pretty super.
Also super was watching members of the Dora Milaje, Black Panther’s elite special forces, beat up the jerky, scruffy-faced new Captain America aka John Walker on Episode 4 of Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. I cried laughing. |By Mr. Joe Walker | Photo courtesy of WWE.com
