I expected surprises from the recent Nintendo Direct, the live stream informing gamers of what’s in the works or set to release for Nintendo Switch.
Nintendo showed off clips of Splatoon 3 and Beyonetta 3. Both looked impressive.
The stream announced the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character would be revealed on October 5th. That revved up my speculation engine (and I’d bet it’s going to be Waluigi).
They also revealed new stages and characters Mario Golf: Super Rush were available on their e-Shop.
What surprised me most was the announcement of Actraiser Renaissance, a remastered version of the classic Super Nintendo game Actraiser! This was completely unexpected and incredibly exciting.
One of the first games released for the SNES, my best friend Shannon and I marveled at its groundbreaking orchestral music and vivid graphics. I shared the news of the remaster with him, causing him to get amped to revisit the game in all its new glory.
He and I have a lot of memories associated with Nintendo’s 16-bit console, and it’s cool we get to relive a past gaming highlight with the polish of current technology. | By M.J. Walker
