I’d like to first offer my sincerest condolences to the family, friends, and fans of multiplatinum-selling music producer Chucky Thompson. An all-time great with a catalog of classic R&B and Hip Hop songs, Chucky passed away from Covid-19 on August 10, 2021. He was 53.
One of the original members of Bad Boy Records iconic “Hitmen” production team, Chucky shared his talents with a remarkable clientele of artists – Usher, Mary J, Blige, Faith Evans, Total, Notorious B.I.G., and Nas among numerous others.
From a personal perspective, he was behind songs that defined a pivotal era of my young adult life.
Today he and I surprisingly have a mutual friend, multiplatinum-selling producer and all-time great drummer Antwan “Amadeus” Thompson. Not only do these men share similar career accolades and the same last name, historically they’re both Bad Boy “Hitmen”.
I tuned into Amadeus on Instagram Live to experience his emotional impromptu tribute to Chucky. Calling for his viewers to respond with heart and praying hands emojis instead of posting “RIP”, Amadeus, with tears in his eyes and his voice often trembling, cued up and played several of the hits and favorites Chucky is famous for. His playlist included “Can’t You See” (by Total), “Think of You” (by Usher), and “You Bring Me Joy” (by Blige).
Chucky Thompson used his gift to bring joy to millions, earning every tear from his loved ones and admires that will miss him most. Sadden by his loss, he leaves us with memories that will forever sound incredible.
Thank you, Chucky. | By M.J. Walker
