I’m late finding out that actor Clarence Williams III passed away. According to the news he died from colon cancer on June 4th at the age of 81.

An acting legend with an incredible career, Williams is known for portraying several iconic characters.

Williams was Linc Hayes on The Mod Squad, Prince’s abusive father in Purple Rain, Bobby Shy in 52 Pick-Up, Sampson Simpson (“What part of Jamacia?!”) opposite Dave Chappelle in Half Baked, and eerie Mr. Simms in Tales from the Hood.

When I learned about Williams passing, I immediately pictured him as Kalinga in I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, one of my all-time favorite movies. He hilariously portrayed a former Black Panther with a questionable bean diet, with his pro-Black White wife and two pro-Black militant White children. It’s a standout scene in a classic movie full of standout scenes. Just the thought of brought a smile to my face.

Thank you, Clarence Williams III. Rest In Peace. | By M.J. Walker
