Writer/director James Gunn has hinted for years that Rocket is the heart of the Guardians of the Galaxy story. We finally learn the depths of his importance in Vol. 3, the Guardians third and final Marvel Cinematic Universe chapter.
Our favorite smack-talking, gun-wielding, kleptomaniac trash panda is undoubtedly one of the MCU’s most popular characters. He’s also one of the most emotionally layered.
Rocket alluded to his unfavorable, tortured past in Vol. 1, and since then we’ve slowly learned just how important belonging and family are to him.
We know the violent racoon, or whatever-the-heck he really is, will stop at nothing to protect the ones he loves.
