Today’s episode of VOICES features Lansing, MI teacher, poet, and mother Kristi Bicy!

Inspired by her daughter, her poem “Dear Black Girl” is an open letter urging her to accept her skin and all that comes with it. It’s a powerful poem that shows that she should not be ashamed of the color of her skin. In fact, it is a thing to be celebrated and to be proud of.

Amidst a climate of constant negativity around the Black community, Kristi’s poem and conversation afterward is a breath of fresh air and positivity.
