Who follows a game changer with another game changer?!

It’s a rare occurrence in Hip Hop, and it’s one the Geto Boys can boast on their extensive list of accomplishments.

Two years after turning the nation on its ear with Grip It! On That Other Level, Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill brought the darkness of the streets to the bright lights of pop culture with 1991’s appropriately titled We Can’t Be Stopped.

Its leadoff single “Mind Playing Tricks on Me” became an unavoidable smash, heavily rotated in urban and suburban sound systems. Its eerie, extremely quotable horror story verses (“This year Halloween fell on a weekend…”) and surprisingly danceable Scarface-produced track made it an instant classic and radio favorite.

Off the FM dial, the entire album was gem after gem. It’s an aggressive LP loaded with profane social commentary and popular references.

The Boys advised they “Ain’t With Being Broke”. They told us you “Gota Let Your Nutz Hang”. They reminded everyone “Homie Don’t Play That”. In the vein of their previous album’s “Mind of a Lunatic”, Bushwick frighteningly and skillfully detailed his morbid relationship with killer doll “Chuckie”.

Following a game-changing album with another is a rare occurrence in Hip Hop, and it’s one the Geto Boys can boast on their extensive list of accomplishments. | THIS ENT
