Negativity and selfishness gets great publicity in our social networking, indirect-contact society. You’d be led to believe the world’s running low on good people and that no one cares for or respects one another anymore. Their only concerns are themselves; and when they’re in need, no one is willing to lend them a hand without reward.

This is not the case. Kind, caring, selflessly-generous people still exist. Ozay Moore, Sareem Poems, Deborah Diesen, Ricky Valenz, Zhou Tian, Jerome Vierling, Kevin Berry, Najeema Iman, Alex Malone, Tiffany Norde, Lhauren Singleton, Dr. Karen May, Mila Lynn, KC Carter, Rodney Whitaker, Diego Rivera, Candi Carpenter, Erica Munchbach, and Sarah Pierce are shining examples.

Every week our Shining Example column features a remarkable person sharing an inspiring personal story about an act of kindness. Since December 9, 2019, we have featured 117 encouraging persons, and we’re honored, privileged and proud that 18 of them, mentioned above, are from our Mid-Michigan home community!

517Living.com founder Sarah Pierce is mentioned above too, though she has not (yet) appeared in our weekly column. What she has done is create a valuable online platform that informs and unifies our (area code) 517 community, allowing residents to connect with one another for helpful, supportive, encouraging, and entertaining reasons. She did this selflessly and generously, and we’re grateful.
