August 11, 2023, is a historic day and it’s inspiring a sure-to-be unforgettable event. Sixman returns to his native Grand Rapids, MI for HIP HOP 50Th Anniversary Music Fest live at top-rated venue The Pyramid Scheme!
“The world is celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop,” says Sixman. “We are truly blessed to be able to celebrate this along with the other official events happening around the world. That says a lot for our market.
Celebrating this cultural milestone, the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop, Sixman will close out a stacked lineup of on this joyous occasion. Everyone in attendance will witness impassioned performances by Nappy Head Assassins, J.Rob, Manchild, Nyla, Zero, Gwopped Up Speedy, Alfie Da Great, Huff the Goat, WUZEE, Sonny Ski, D.E.S., Sha Dow, Adrian Wright, DJ Ill One, DJ Kapp, DJ Seven Eightz, and DJ Kokn, with industry favorite MR. 1204 serving as host.
“Culturally it is important for us to give proper respect to the founders of this genre,” Sixman explains. “Without them none of us would be doing what we do today. At 100 years we may not be around for that celebration, so to celebrate the culture which has done so much for us all is truly an honor.”
Sponsored by WYCE Radio, NOXX and COOKIES GR, Wasted Brand Clothing, Debo Scotty (Power Moves Only), Vitale’s On Leonard, THIS ENT, and Feeding America (West Michigan), attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to help feed the less fortunate in the community.
“Hip Hop has always stood for community, empowerment, and growth,” Sixman says. “It’s the reason why I chose to follow in the footsteps of DJ Kool Herc and Cynthia Campbell. We’re doing a food drive in the same spirit as they did on Sedgwick & Cedar when they did a back-to-school fundraiser with the very first Hip Hop jam.”
With this once-in-a-lifetime event, Sixman and all involved are upholding the charitable nature of Hip Hop’s origin at 1520 Sedwick Ave in Bronx, NY fifty years ago.
